Programs we're funding
Jenna's Rainbow Foundation is committed to help support the children, families, and communities dealing with the challenges of combating pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors.
JRF Book Cart
One of Jenna's Rainbow's charitable activities is "children book drives." Many children provide "new" books to the foundation through mitzvah projects, receiving books in lieu of birthday gifts, schools, and various community service groups. We check all of the books to make sure they are new and we put colorful, fun labels on them identifying the charity.
We have recently invested in a beautiful book cart and delivered it to the Jerome L. Greene Pediatric Hematology - Oncology Unit at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Bronx, NY. (
Click here for the beautiful pictures).
The books will need to be replenished on a regular basis. The category of books are as follows:
Infant/Toddler
Pre School/Kindergarten
1-3rd Grade
4-5th Grade
Pre Teen/Middle School
Teen/High School
It is so refreshing to see the kids get excited about picking a book that they get to keep.
If you are interested in donating books, please contact the foundation through the information provided on the website.
Intensive Creative Artists in Residence (ICAIR) at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore
This summer, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) launched a year-long residency program powered by The Naomi Cohain Foundation, Art Works beginning in September. The program,
Intensive Creative Artists in Residence (ICAIR), was made possible through a grant from JRF that has been generously matched by the Adam Gaynes Foundation. Intensive CAIR provides weekly programming varying from movie making, animation, cartooning and music-production among other creative and fun activities. The program is available to children and young adults ages 6 – 21 and takes place appropriately in the
Teen Recreation Lounge, which was also sponsored by JRF and The Adam Gaynes Foundation.
Jenna’s Corner
New this year, JRF provided a grant to the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation to fund the establishment of
Jenna's Corner, an online community. This service connects over 3,000 family members nationwide who are affected by pediatric brain tumors. It provides families of diagnosed children with accurate and critical information, as well as a connection to some of the nation’s top leading medical experts.
Camp Sunshine
Once again, JRF helped fund 42 families from all parts of the United States, to attend one week of camp at
Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine.
Camp Sunshine provides families whose child has a brain tumor much needed respite, comfort and care in a medically supervised and therapeutic environment at no cost to the family.
Camp Dream Street at The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades
JRF continues to fund the annual carnival at
Camp Dream Street in August.
Camp Dream Street is a one week tuition-free day camp held annually for children struggling with pediatric cancer and other blood disorders, and their siblings.
Teen Recreation Lounge at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center
JRF funded the establishment of a
Teen Recreation Lounge on the Oncology floor, giving hospitalized teens the comforts of home with state of the art video games, computers, televisions, and other forms of entertainment.
This year we expanded our services to include:
- An Art Cart filled with a variety of arts & crafts supplies and projects, donated with a grant from the JCC Teen Philanthropy. The children and teens on the Oncology floor share in these activities. The cart is portable and can be wheeled to those confined to their rooms, so that every child has the opportunity to enjoy it. This year we will continue to restock with more supplies.
- A library consisting of over 200 books that were donated by children in our community. JRF added nine annual magazine subscriptions for kids, teens and parents.
Holiday Toy Drives
JRF continues its annual toy drives held in Smith and Maugham elementary schools and Temple Sinai Youth Group. Toys and gift cards are donated to children and their siblings at a holiday party and bedside in area hospitals.
Direct Financial Grants to Families
JRF gives grants to meet specific financial challenges facing families undergoing treatment, to fill the gaps where other organizations could not step in. Grant amounts have varied depending on need and specific circumstances.
Referrals are made by a professional team to indicate need.
Information/ Referral Services
JRF supports newly diagnosed families via phone and email helping to insure that families receive access to optimal care, information, and resources.
